Birds in the Earth is a short film based on dance and experimental storytelling. It tells a story about Sámi dance students Birit and Katja Haarla, the Sámi being the indigenous people of Fennoscandia. Girls dance through the villages and lost woods of Sámi all the way to where the important decisions are made. At the same time, it looks at deeper questions about the ownership of Sámi land and the Sami peoples´ rights in today's Finland. The polarity of Nature and the Western way of life is filtered through sharp humor.
